A Backyard Father's Day Celebration

Father’s Day, Sunday June 18th is a day to celebrate and have fun! Make great memories with the dads in your life this year in your own backyard or a local park. A picnic or barbeque is always a family favorite, especially when you are serving dishes the whole family can enjoy. For the family member or friend following a kidney diet, including suitable dishes is sure to be appreciated.

Planning a Kidney-Friendly BBQ

First, decide on the main course. Â鶹ԭ´´ offers recipes for a variety of low sodium, low phosphorus and low potassium grilled entries. A simple but flavorful option is Grilled Marinated Chicken.  If you would like a few more grilling tips, be sure to watch the Â鶹ԭ´´ Chef’s Tips video below.

While the grill is hot, go ahead and grill a side dish or two as well. A simple, colorful option is the classic recipe for Grilled Multicolored Peppers and Onions. To save room on the grill, you might want to make Pineapple Rice for a side dish. This recipe is a fun, fruity twist on classic white rice and pairs great with grilled vegetables. For dessert, consider a simple sliced watermelon or the easy to make Watermelon Summer Cooler. Just remember if you are following a fluid restriction or you are on a low potassium diet, it’s a good idea to limit your watermelon intake to a one cup serving, as fluid and potassium can easily add up.

More Fun Activities

For a touch of nostalgia, it may be fun to bring out the red and white checkered throw, a classic family board game after dinner, or share a family photo album to prompt the exchange of favorite memories.

No matter how you decide to celebrate Father’s Day, there are Â鶹ԭ´´.com recipes to help make Dad feel special while keeping the meal kidney-friendly for those who need a renal diet.
